Webkinz Security UpdateIt has now been three weeks since we added the requirement that all accounts change their password upon login. We would like to thank all of our members who have already made this change. Still we have some members who have not yet updated their password. To ensure that these accounts remain as safe as possible, we are extending the requirements needed to change your password. As of today players will be required to enter the name of one of their pets (any pet on the account) in addition to their old password to update to a new password. Pet names were not included in the data that was obtained by the unauthorized person (you can read about the security incident here - webkinznewz.ganzworld.com/passwordchange/). Ganz understands the importance of providing secure access to your Webkinz accounts and will continue to improve our security as the need arises.

NOTE: you do not have to change your password AGAIN! This is for the accounts that did not change the PW AFTER the update when you were forced to. This is just another layer of protection. But it stinks we were not given notice. I had not logged into to some side accounts I wanted to keep from a friend. I have no clue what the pet names are

I think its crappy that they did this without warning. Some people who have extra accounts don't know their pet's names. I wouldn't know what pet is on which account of my extra ones. Guess I'll have to now make a spreadsheet with accounts, passwords, pet name, and pet code just for future security.

But had not gotten around to most of Nellies accounts and my junk ones. Have no clue what names I used.

I have the accounts names on the computer and on piece of paper, but lucky for me I only have 12 accounts so I am going to log on each account to put their names on a piece of paper too.

I keep one entered pet tag from each account and write the account name on the back of the used tag in a baggy just in case. Writing the pet's name on the tag back would be helpful too.

MommaBearLas , was this update posted on Webkinz Newz? I can't find the post on there if it posted on there. How are other members planning to keep track of usernames, passwords, and pet names among other account details when they have tons of accounts? I have a bunch of accounts but haven't written down the names of Webkinz on some of the accounts since some of the accounts were given to me and I don't have secret codes for any of the Webkinz on the accounts as a result.

This wasn't posted on WebkinzNewz, it was posted on the Webkinz Facebook page. I don't know that other members have made plans to keep track since this is so new. I'd suggest writing down on paper (and putting it somewhere safe) or in a word/excel document on your computer - acct name, password, pet name, pet code. Be sure to keep it in a safe place that you'll be able to access and remember where you put it. If you have already changed your passwords, you won't have to worry about this for now, but I'd suggest keeping track of any pet code you add to your account in future.

This whole thing is crazy! I am the owner of multiple accounts and I can honestly say that I do not remember what information I used when I created each account many years ago. I don't know what pet is on which account. I keep 1 pet code tag for each account and always thought that if I had an issue with my account, the only information that I would need is the pet code. Now they want pet names. Guess I better go through my accounts and right the pet names down on my tags.
I know that many of us have also had accounts given to us from friends over the years and I just want to make you all aware that if you have an issue with an account that a "friend" gave you and need to email customer service, do not ever make Ganz aware that the account was gifted to you. They will PERMANENTLY BAN the account as soon as they find out you are not the owner. Webkinz World accounts are not "transferable". I had this happen to me. The only way to get the account unbanned is to have the OWNER of the account email Ganz and answer a bunch of security questions.

I have three accounts that were given to me when players decided to leave or cut back on their own accounts. I know Ganz used to require the name on the account and birthdate of the account holder. I know that info on two of three of these. I would be bummed to lose any accounts because I have spent my own money to maintain them.

Even with my side accounts that I am the owner of, I do not remember if I put the accounts in my name or my hubby's name or which birthdates that I used. It's scary to think that I could lose my own accounts because I do not remember that information and never wrote it all down. I thought that the only information that I would need is a pet code from the account if I had an issue. I had several accounts gifted to me as well from members that no longer play and I do not know any of their information. After Ganz permanently banned one of the accounts that was gifted to me, I've been clearing out all of my side accounts and putting all the items on my one storage account that I do know the information for.

This is a shame for sure. I would be in the same situation since I had friends who left the game and gave me their account. These accounts may not have started as mine, but after 10 years, I sure do consider them mine. I've put pets on these accounts to maintain them, I've purchased deluxe memberships for them and put a lot of effort into collecting and decorating. I would be ripped if I lost them or they were banned. That would undoubtedly be the end of WW for me. That is just wrong. I too, in younger years, did not put the right name or date of birth for my kids... the internet was not a place where I wanted to put my kids information. Even a game like Webkinz when you don't know how secure its going to be.

If you have an inherited account where you don't recall the name of who opened it, click on a Pet Bio, I meant pet's Certificate of Adoption and it will show the owner's name.
