An exclusive interview with Zingyginger,
the "People's Choice" room winner!
Congratulations again! If you don't mind I'd like to ask a few questions for a little article.
Oh no. I don't mind at all. It's very sweet of you to ask.
How did you feel when you learned you were in the final top ten in the Webkinz Room Design Contest?
I was very excited and honored to be picked out of all the wonderful entries I've seen on WKN.
But a little nervous too as it's not my first time being a finalist.
Was wondering if I was going to be the Susan Lucci of the Room Design Awards.
How did you decide what room to enter? Where did the idea of a skating rink come from?
Truthfully, I just send a bunch of rooms I'm happy with after I make them.
I still get puzzled over what Michael picks from what I send. Some he posts
very quickly, some I've forgotten about by the time he posts them.
Some never get posted at all. The skating rink was originally designed for a contest elsewhere.
Did you just have a good feeling about that room? What made it special to you?
I was particularly happy about how it turned out.
The contest was for a WShop only skating rink where we were
allowed 1 nonWShop item. I picked the ice resurfacer (an exclusive)
so I had only WShop items to create the feel of a skating rink. I
designed mine after what I love the most about the Rockefeller
skating rink at Christmas time: the skaters, the cafe where you can have
hot chocolate after being out on the ice, the huge Christmas tree,
the shops with all the pretty window displays. I did tweak it a bit after that contest:
swapped out the WShop red tables for the FSI dining tables and
added the Tasteful & Tasty Tea Set rare.
Are you excited about winning the People's Choice Award?
Yes, I was thrilled! It's an honor after seeing everyone's
fantastic entries - they're all winners in my book.
Did you jump up and down screaming when the winners were announced?
LOL, my downstairs neighbors wouldn't have been too happy if I did.
But you bet I was doing a happy dance on the inside.
Are you going to keep entering rooms now?
Not sure yet. Real life's been a wee bit hectic lately that I'm thinking
I'm happy to have won: I want to give others more chances with less
distractions from my submissions. But I might come up with something
else I just have to share. We'll see.
What advice would you give someone who was thinking about entering a room in the next contest?
Just keep submitting rooms. It's just like the lotto, you can't win
if you don't buy a ticket, right? Except your chances of winning are better
than a lottery. If you have so many rooms to chose from, submit those
that have a good mix of different types of items, not just all eStore or all PSIs.
If you want a chance at being a finalist and look over previous finalists' rooms,
those are the ones that make it. A friend who was Michael's pick for
the first one had several rooms featured including one that was
a gorgeous webbie version of Frozen using mostly all eStore.
But her room that won the trophy hardly had an eStore item.
Are you making a special room to show off your trophy?
I'd love to but that will take some time. For now, here it is:
We'd also like to congratulate Just417 who
also had a lovely room in the top ten this round.
WT is so proud of you both! Congratulations.
